Do I Watch The Biggest Loser?:
I have been asked this several times in the last week, so I am assuming the show either just started or is in its final episodes? I watched Biggest Loser when it was first aired on TV, but quickly became uninterested in what they have to offer. I was hoping for a show that would show realistic weight-loss at its best. Instead, what we got was a large group of the heaviest people they can find being held on the “Fat Farm” (I think that is what it was called?). It puts a trainer in complete control of someone’s life. You have no friends or family around to ask, “Hey, want to grab a bite to eat?” You don’t have someone having to choose whether they should go grab a beer and appetizer with friends or stay at home and watch CNBC and enjoy their protein drink.
The unfortunate thing for me is it creates a misperception of what I do as a Professional. I give you the tools to follow a workout plan and nutrition plan outside of the time we meet in the studio. When you leave from your session, it is up to you to deny temptation at its best! You will have to tell a friend that you can’t go out to eat every day of the week, you will have to tell a friend you can’t go out for drinks Thursday thru Saturday night or if you do, you will have to settle for a bottle of water and be the annoyed sober person in the room, watching the stumbling stupid (which can also be entertaining).
Because these temptations are hard, it creates a great disappointment when I get someone who weighs 150 pounds and wants to weigh 130 and they are unable to reach that goal in 6 weeks by just going through the motions of working out with me 2-5 days per week and nothing outside of those times. Many of these people become irritated, impatient or even depressed and give up, quit training and go back to their “old habits.”
If someone is looking for me to be their personal/private trainer/cook, then that can be arranged for a price and I can show them how being on lockdown for several weeks without friends, family and the option of junk food can allow them to lose weight rapidly like they do on “The Biggest Loser.”
I am really just hoping that each and every one of the persons I train can follow the keys of success and hold themselves accountable for their own actions and always remember “You Look And Feel How You Eat!”
